5052 Aluminum: O, H32 or H34, Bend Radius and Buying Mistakes
5052 aluminum sheet in O, H32 and H34 tempers differs clearly in strength, ductility...
A3003 Aluminum is an alloy from the 3000 series, with Manganese (Mn) as its primary alloying element. It is considered the most versatile and popular aluminum alloy on the market due to its perfect balance of properties: moderate strength, excellent corrosion resistance, and superb formability and weldability. Compared to 1xxx series pure aluminum, A3003 has about 20% higher strength while retaining its excellent workability. It is a non-heat-treatable material that is hardened through cold working.

The Manganese (Mn) content is the key element that strengthens the A3003 alloy.
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Density | 2.73 g/cm³ |
| Melting Point | ~644 °C |
| Thermal Conductivity | 162 W/m·K |
The strength of A3003 aluminum varies significantly depending on its temper, from soft and ductile in the annealed state (O) to hard and strong in the H18 state. You can learn more about these designations in our guide to aluminum grades.
| Temper | Tensile Strength (MPa) | Yield Strength (MPa) | Elongation (%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3003-O (Soft) | 110 | 41 | 30% |
| 3003-H14 (Half-Hard) | 152 | 145 | 8% |
| 3003-H18 (Full-Hard) | 200 | 186 | 4% |
Thanks to its versatile properties, A3003 aluminum is found in many familiar products:
A3003 Aluminum is the ideal choice when you need a material with a reasonable cost, good corrosion resistance, and especially one that is very easy to bend, stamp, and weld. It is the "unsung hero" in many industries, from construction and automotive to HVAC and consumer goods manufacturing. If your project does not require the extremely high mechanical strength of alloys like the 6xxx or 7xxx series, A3003 is the most optimal solution in terms of both performance and cost.
