Sun Energy, a strategic member of the Singapore-based Solar United Network (SUN) Group, has officially commenced the construction of a large-scale rooftop solar project with a total capacity of 9.6 MWp at the JNTC Vina factory, located in Phu Ha Industrial Park, Phu Tho Province. This event not only marks a significant step in Sun Energy's investment portfolio in Vietnam but also clearly demonstrates the potential and appeal of the Energy Service Company (ESCO) model in the industrial sector.
The 9.6 MWp project, upon operation, is estimated to generate an annual electricity output of approximately 21,900,000 kWh. More importantly, the project is implemented under the ESCO model, an advanced financial and technical solution. Accordingly, Sun Energy will bear all costs for investment, installation, operation, and maintenance of the system. In return, the partner, JNTC Vina factory, will use clean electricity at a more competitive price than the national grid without any upfront capital investment.
This model creates a "win-win" scenario: JNTC Vina reduces energy costs, lowers its carbon footprint (an estimated reduction of 18,500 tons of CO2 annually), and enhances its sustainable brand image, meeting the green standards of global supply chains. Meanwhile, Sun Energy secures a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), ensuring a stable revenue stream.
Sun Energy's significant investment in Phu Tho indicates a shifting trend of renewable energy investors expanding to northern industrial provinces, not just focusing on the South and Central regions as before. This move reflects the growing demand for clean energy from FDI enterprises in industrial parks, which are under pressure to "green" their production to meet the requirements of major global brands.
This project is a prime example of sustainable industrial solutions, helping manufacturing businesses optimize operational costs and contribute to Vietnam's Net Zero target by 2050. The project's success is expected to promote the replication of the ESCO model nationwide, opening up an effective social capital mobilization channel for renewable energy development.
By commencing this 9.6 MWp project, Sun Energy affirms its long-term and strategic investment commitment in the Vietnamese market. The success of this project will serve as a foundation for the company to continue expanding cooperation with other businesses in industrial parks, contributing to building a clean, sustainable, and highly competitive industrial manufacturing base on the international stage.
