Lang Son, August 12, 2025 – The completion and commissioning of Provincial Road 289 (DT.289), directly connecting Luc Nam district (Bac Giang) with Lang Son province, is revolutionizing the transport and logistics infrastructure of the entire Northeast region. Spanning approximately 33 km, this route is not merely a transportation project but a strategic economic artery, opening up a new, more efficient transport corridor that links border gates with the major industrial centers of Northern Vietnam.
This project is seen as the key to breaking the monopoly of National Highway 1A, alleviating traffic pressure, and unlocking unprecedented socio-economic development opportunities for the mountainous localities.

Previously, all goods from Lang Son's border gates destined for industrial zones in Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, or Hanoi had to travel on National Highway 1A, a route frequently plagued by congestion. DT.289 has created a superior alternative, significantly reducing transit time and costs. Specifically, the new route allows freight vehicles, especially those carrying agricultural products like Chi Lang custard apples and industrial goods, to reach factories and seaports much faster.
This change is vital for the supply chain. It not only enhances the competitiveness of Vietnamese goods but also stimulates the growth of ancillary logistics services such as warehousing and distribution centers along the new route. Businesses can now optimize their transport planning, reduce inventory costs, and fulfill orders more quickly.
The impact of DT.289 extends far beyond logistics. By connecting the remote mountainous districts of Lang Son with the developed plains, this road is becoming a magnet for investment. New industrial parks and clusters have the opportunity to form along this economic corridor, leveraging advantages in land availability and local labor.
The development of transport infrastructure always goes hand-in-hand with construction demand. Projects for factories, urban areas, and service infrastructure are projected to boom in the coming years. This will create a massive demand for building materials, requiring contractors to constantly update construction steel prices and other essential materials. DT.289 is not just a road; it is the foundation for a new, comprehensive, and sustainable economic growth cycle for a vast region.
