On August 17, 2025, the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) officially commenced the construction of the 500kV Hai Phong - Thai Binh transmission line project. With a total investment of nearly 1,916 billion VND, this project is a critical link in the strategy to ensure energy security and meet the rapidly growing electricity demand in the Northern Delta region of Vietnam.
The project is implemented to address several strategic goals. Primarily, it will ensure a stable and reliable power supply for the economic hubs of Hai Phong City and Thai Binh province. More importantly, the project is designed to meet the N-1 criterion, a crucial operational safety standard in the power industry, which ensures the grid remains stable even if a single component fails.
The completion of this line will also help improve voltage quality, reduce technical losses in the grid, and enhance the connectivity and operational flexibility of the 500kV transmission system in the northern region, creating a more resilient network.
The project is large-scale, involving the construction of a new double-circuit 500kV line with the following key specifications:
This is one of 250 key projects registered by EVNNPT to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2nd), highlighting its national importance and urgency.
EVNNPT has set an ambitious target to complete and energize the project within the fourth quarter of 2025, in line with the Prime Minister's directive. This tight schedule demands maximum effort from construction units and close coordination with local authorities. The most significant challenge currently is site clearance. Contractors have committed to mobilizing maximum resources and are seeking support from local residents and government levels to ensure the project is completed on schedule, contributing to the region's socio-economic development.
