According to data from China's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), domestic rebar prices in the country recorded a significant increase of 4.5% during the late-July period, specifically from July 21 to 31, 2025. This fluctuation is a key indicator of the construction steel market situation in the world's second-largest economy.
During the reported period, the average price for HRB400 grade, 20 mm diameter rebar reached RMB 3,813.1/mt (approximately $527/mt). This price level reflects an increase compared to previous periods, suggesting a potential tightening of supply or an improvement in market demand.
Other market analyses also confirm this upward price trend, suggesting that factors such as government-mandated production cuts to control pollution and meet carbon neutrality goals, along with a potential recovery in the construction sector, may have contributed to driving steel prices up. A 4.5% increase over a short period (10 days) is a strong signal that investors and industry players need to monitor closely.
The price change of rebar, an essential construction material, could impact the costs of infrastructure and real estate projects, not only in China but also potentially affecting prices in the export market in the near future.
